Respite Care & Short-Term Accommodation
What is Respite Care and STA?
Respite Care or short-term accommodation is one of the core NDIS services that aims at helping those participants who live in shared environments. Independence starts at home, and this support will help you find and manage a suitable place to live. This support enables people with disabilities to achieve their goals and be independent in a supported environment. It is also an opportunity for a family caring for disabled persons to take a short break from their daily responsibilities.
You can receive assistance in your current home and also access long-term or short-term accommodation. Under the supervision of qualified staff, you'll have the opportunity to meet new people, participate in fun activities, social excursions, and make new friends.

How to Access Respite Care
You can use the Core Budget of your NDIS plan to access STA/Respite Care, it does not have to be stated directly in your plan. You should consider discussing this support with your Local Area Coordinator (LAC) or your Support Coordinator and apply directly for this support at your next plan review meeting. If approved the NDIA will usually fund up to 28 days of STA per year and you can use this funding Flexibly. For example, you may choose to access it up to 7 days at a time or you can decide to use it for one weekend per month. Regardless of what you choose it is your choice and control.
